The biggest brands in the world, did not get there by accident. It is ALL due to good marketing strategy.
Remember even “Word of mouth” is marketing. And sometimes, the most powerful marketing.
So what is a good marketing strategy?
A good rule to remember is that you should only focus on one thing! The most unique thing about your product, or service. Say that one thing in such a matter, that it will be remembered for as long as possible.
To look at a big dog; Coca Cola.. Why is Coca Cola bigger than Pepsi Cola? Why will it always be like this? Why does it not matter that Pepsi Cola has won several “blind tests” ? It is Coca Cola´s really good strategic marketing that is the reason. What is the most unique thing about Coca Cola that Pepsi cannot say? It is the fact that Coca Cola is the original Cola. That means that any other Cola is copies! And when the price is not an issue, original will always beat the copies! This does Coca Cola focus on when thay say their worldly famous: “You cant beat the real thing” Nobody can disagree whit that.
So what did Pepsi do to get as big as they have? Well they saw that young people liked the Pepsi taste, and more often than others bought Pepsi rather then Coca Cola. Therefor did Pepsi create an sub category for them self in the Cola category. And said “the choice of a new generation” Young people responded well to that, because it gave them a chance to distance them selfs from the older generation.
So, strategy tip of the day; if you are in a category where you cannot compete with the “top dog”, try to find out how you can distance your product by creating a new sub-category. Be the first and/or the leader in this new category.
